A Hollywood Gem

Megan Mullally is best know as the zany Karen Walker on the hit comedy Will & Grace.  On the show, Mullally is the assistant for Grace’s interior design business. Although her character’s TV design career was a bust, Mullally has quite an eye for good design in real life. She collaborated on her Hollywood home’s renovation and design with interior designer Ames Ingham.  Together they created a home that manages to be cozy, glamorous and full of personality.

Ingham and Mullally first established a background of white walls and ebony floors.  This provided a base for an eclectic mix of furnishings and bright bursts of color.  The effect is a home that feels current and comfortable.

Here are a few of my favorite spaces:

Finding the Perfect Bathtowel

I have a client who needed new towels in anticipation of a move into her new home. She was looking for high quality towels that were also absorbent. Faced with this decision, I encouraged her to buy several towels from different sources, wash each of them and then do a “blind test” with her husband.  I was anxious to hear what the verdict was!

The winner . . . towels from Restoration Hardware.  They are soft, well made and highly absorbent.  They come in a variety of appealing colors for every decor.  These towels are reasonably priced so you can stock up guilt free.  In fact, they’re are on sale right now.  So, if you are thinking about refreshing your bath linen now is the time to do it!

How about a Visit to the Pantone Hotel?

The new Pantone Hotel in Brussels has definitely caught my eye.   I don’t know if the exuberant color schemes would promote a relaxing stay, but it certainly looks like a fun novelty.  I think this hotel would be a real hit if you were traveling with children and teens.

Each level of the Hotel’s seven floors offers a different color palette.  The palettes evoke certain moods and you choose your color scheme based on your frame of mind upon arrival.  You may choose from seven color schemes such as  “fresh and eager”, “daring and fiery” or “earthy-rich” depending on your state of mind.   I think I would go for “fresh and eager” after a long day of traveling.  How about you?
