Comfort Rules

When selecting furniture for a home,  both form and function play important roles.  Aside from selecting lounge chairs for my clients that are attractive, it is as important that we select pieces that provide extreme comfort.  Through the years, I have always seemed to gravitate to the upholstered chairs manufactured by A. Rudin.  With its classic silhouettes, crisp lines and perfectly balanced proportions, this manufacturer has proved time and time again to provide the most comfortable  and good looking chairs around!   They are well made and versatile and can be custom made to an individual’s desires.

I had the pleasure of working with one couple who each wanted a lounge chair in their master bedroom.  The wife had back problems and wanted a chair with stiffer cushions; the husband desired to have softer cushions on his chair.  Not a problem!  We had two matching A. Rudin chairs made, but one chair’s cushions were fabricated with a different fill than the other.  Success!

Here are a few examples of chairs from A. Rudin that fit the criteria of being both comfortable and beautiful.

La Jolla

One of my absolute favorite places to visit in the US is La Jolla, California.  This coastal town has just about everything -  luxury hotels, incredible beaches, great shopping and sophisticated restaurants.   If you want to be active there is incredible golfing, surfing, tennis and hiking. I particularly enjoyed playing Torrey Pines which has got to be the most amazing municipal golf course in the US.

It is often hard to find a vacation that provides a blend of  outdoor adventure,  spa like accommodations and cultural activities.  This destination really has something for everyone.   So, if your summer vacation plans are still up in the air, you now have my hearty recommendation.

Here are some photos to give you a glimpse of what LaJolla has to offer.

Sophisticated Screens

When used properly screens can be a great design tool.  Screens will add a bit of structure in a room with little interest and they are perfect for hiding unwanted architectural elements such as venting  or camouflaging oddly proportioned rooms.  They are also perfect for creating a smaller space with in a larger room.

The key to selecting a screen is finding something that works seamlessly with the rest of the design while making sure it is sturdy enough to withstand everyday traffic.  Here are a few screens that have caught my eye.

I love the glamor of this massive mirrored screen.

Screen Elie Saab

This Asian influenced screen creates a defined seating area.

Screen Hirsh Bedner Associates

This beautifully crafted screen adds interest to a monochromatic color scheme.

Screen Rob and Sheryl Goldstein

This antique leather screen was the inspiration for the entire room.
